What a pity it is that we take so many amazing photos, only to have them sit on a computer or hard drive for years. Instead of letting some of your best memories go to waste, make a point of printing them a few times a year. Just be sure to hide the timestamps before you print – they’re next to impossible to hide behind a frame.
Once you start printing them, here are a few suggestions for how you can organize and showcase your favorite images.
- Label them with ink. If your handwriting is legible, writing the dates and the names of the people in the photo on each print is great for organization and reminiscing. To prevent the ink from fading over time, stay away from permanent markers and gel pens.
- Create a few statement pieces in your home. When you print photos, the sky’s the limit. Why not use some of your best images to create a statement piece in your home. If you are going to go big, make sure that you’re working with a reputable printer that uses quality materials. Striking frames, canvas or even heavier paper that can stand out all on its own.
- Invest in photo storage. Craft stores usually stock photo boxes in a variety of colors. Once you organize your photos into different categories or years, add a label to the exterior so that you never have to guess what’s inside. Sorting photos by month and year within each box is also useful – you can use labeled paper dividers for this.
- Relook at scrapbooking. Many people are put off the idea of scrapbooking after seeing a book that wasn’t quite their style or was poorly constructed. Scrapbooking is essentially a more creative photo album, which means you can make it anything you want it to be. Plus, adding a personal touch to your album makes it even more special to showcase and flip through. If you don’t necessarily want to go this route, there’s always the option of compiling and printing out photobooks.
Bonus Tip: Place your most precious photos, such as those from your wedding or any professional photoshoot in a fireproof safe.
