If you love taking photos with your smartphone or DSLR camera in your spare time, you are already a creative person. However, even the most creative person runs short on inspiration every now and then.
If you feel like you haven’t taken a unique or inspiring photo in a while, here are a few ways that you can fuel your creativity.
- Change Up Your Day
When was the last time you changed up your routine? Even taking a different route to work is enough to give you some inspiration – think new sights, locations, and people. Switching your routine can be a bit stressful but stepping out of your comfort zone is sometimes all you need.
- Spend Time Outside
When was the last time you took a walk through a forest or sat next to a lake? Immersing yourself in nature without the distraction of technology can really get your creative juices flowing. It doesn’t need to be hours either – start with a mere 20 minutes. Along with some inspiration, you will also feel more refreshed and relaxed. You may even want to take your partner, friend, or children with you – you never know when the perfect photo might present itself.
- See Things in a New Way
Very often, new and exciting photos are directly in front of you. Revisiting some of your favorite spots, watching your children playing, or focusing on textures and patterns around you can give you a new perspective. There is always a way to photograph the same things in different ways. Make a list of the things you regularly photograph and change up your shots. From lighting to angles, there is always something new to capture.
- Join a Photography Group
Connecting with others who share your photography hobby is another excellent way to get inspired. Search social media for meetups in your area. Naturally, things have changed a bit in the time of COVID-19, but this doesn’t mean you can’t use your ability to connect with others to boost your creativity. A lot of virtual meetups are also taking place, so there are always options.
- Try a New Hobby
Photography doesn’t need to be your only hobby. In fact, taking up a new hobby could be the exact thing that sparks your creativity. Perhaps you hone your cooking skills and realize you have a passion for food photography. It doesn’t need to be a fulltime commitment either, you may only need to take a class or two to get inspired.
- Be a Tourist in Your Own City
Planning a field trip in your own city is a great excuse to get out of the house and get inspired. Are there sites and parts of the city you have always wanted to see? This is the ideal time to get out there and discover more of what your city has to offer.
If you are passionate about photography, try not to let creativity fall by the wayside. Small changes to your routine are all that’s required to keep your creative juices flowing.
