I don't do a lot of extended family sessions but when I do I always have so much fun! This extended family session was no exception. We met over at my favorite locations for families, Como Park. Grandma wasn't really up for walking around too much so we stuck to a relatively short distance but still managed to get lots of variety which I think is really important with on location family sessions.
Often times with these ages in the grandchildren you can run into someone not wanting to participate but these kiddos were angels! They all knew what to do, when to do, and how to do it all. Time went by super quick and I felt like I could have just keep photographing them all night but alas once the sun starts to set the session has to wrap up!
Como Park is definitely a favorite location because you really don't have to walk far to get the variety in your backdrops that can be important. Of course if you're willing to walk around a bit then you can really explore what the park has to offer. This extended family session didn't end up at the conservatory because it was a bit of a walk that I mentioned above Grandma wasn't keen on but that's ok, she was willing to walk to the beautiful garden gate area that was a favorite spot this summer and fall for families. I think the parks department must have redone it because I don't remember it being this stunning before. The succulents on the gate were just perfect. It will be interesting to see how it holds up this winter into spring/summer. Spring is actually one of my favorite times to photograph at Como Park because of all the blooming pink trees. But let's get to sharing some of my favorite images from this extended family photo session at Como Park in St. Paul.
