Parenthood is a beautiful journey, but it's also one that can be expensive. One of the many things you'll likely shell out money for is family photos. How much should you spend on family photography, though? Is there a way to get good photos without spending a fortune? In this post, we'll explore what factors go into determining how much you should spend on family photos, and I'll share some tips to help you keep costs down. So whether you're just starting your family or you've been parenting for years, read on for helpful advice!
The cost of family photography depends on the photographer's experience and what's included in the package
The cost of family photography depends on a number of factors, including the photographer's experience and the services included in the package. Generally speaking, experienced photographers will charge more for their services than those who are just starting out. However, it is also important to consider what is included in the collections offered. Some photographers include digital files of the photos in their standard rates, while others charge extra for this service. Other add-ons, such as photo albums or prints, can also affect the overall cost. When considering family photography, it is important to get an estimate from the photographer ahead of time so that there are no surprises later on.
For example I offer 3 collections all of which include some digital files and some print credit. Collections start at just $500 but most clients will spend on average $800-$2000 on all inclusive files and products. You can view my investment page here: mQn Photography Investment
Clients should expect to spend around $800-$2000 for a good quality family photo session
Many luxury photographers will charge a sitting fee (creative fee), which can range from $200-$750. This fee covers the photographer's time and expenses related to the photo shoot, and covers all the things that go on behind the scenes in making your session a success, whether it be the studio location, wardrobe availability or the research that goes into each session. The creative fee does not include the cost of prints or digital files. These can be purchased separately or included in a collection. Prints typically range from $25-$200 each, while digital files start at $100 and can go up to $2000 for the entire session. Thus, when budgeting for a family photo session, it is important to factor in the cost of both the creative fee and prints or digital files. While luxury photography comes with a higher price tag, the investment can be well worth it for families who treasure beautiful and lasting memories.
It's important to find a photographer who you feel comfortable with and who can capture your family's personality
When you are looking for a photographer, it is important to find someone who you feel comfortable with and who can capture your family's personality. The photographer should be able to provide a relaxed and fun environment while still being able to capture natural expressions and moments. They should also be experienced in working with children and families so that everyone feels comfortable and the process is smooth. Ultimately, you want to find a photographer who will create beautiful and timeless images that you will cherish for years to come. With so many options available, taking the time to find the right photographer is worth the investment.
Sessions usually last around an hour, and clients will get anywhere from 10-50 edited photos
Most photo sessions last between 30 minutes to an hour. Depending on the collection purchased, clients will receive 10-50 edited photos. The amount of time between the photo session and receiving the edited photos is about 2 weeks. The simplest way to book a session is by contacting me with the type of session you are interested in and then I'll send you a booking link to choose your day and time from my availability. I recommend reserving your spot 2-3 months in advance to ensure availability. If you have any questions or need help booking, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to working with you!
If possible, try to book sessions in early morning or late afternoon when the light is best
Early morning and late afternoon are generally the best times for photography sessions, when the light is softer and more flattering. If you're shooting inside your home or at the studio, try to book your session for mid day between 10 & 2pm. For an outdoor on-location session, late afternoon is usually the best time, when the sun is lower in the sky and can create some beautiful backlighting effects. Of course, these are general guidelines - ultimately, the best time for your session will depend on the specific location and look that you're going for. But if you're not sure when to schedule your session, err on the side of early morning or late afternoon, and you should be able to get some great photos.
Make sure to have a list of poses or ideas ready for your photographer - this will help them capture your family in their natural state
When you are planning your photo session, it is important to communicate your vision to your photographer. This will help ensure that you are both on the same page, and that your expectations are aligned. If you have specific ideas for props or poses that you would like to incorporate, be sure to mention this to your photographer in advance. That way, they can be prepared with the supplies and concepts that you are looking for. Conversely, if you prefer a more natural look, make sure to let your photographer know so that they can avoid using props or staging scenes that will not fit with your desired aesthetic. By communicating openly and clearly, you can help ensure that your photo session will result in images that you love.
