In-home photo sessions are slowly becoming the new norm, with many photographers offering sessions to clients who still want to capture important life events and memories.
How In-Home Photo Sessions Work
Photographers document your memories without you having to leave the house.
Once you’re photographer arrives at your home it helps to give them a quick tour around. This way they can point out the best places to take your photos. Decluttered spaces with lots of light are always the best option. From there, your photographer will guide you in terms of posing. Lastly, the photos will be professionally edited before you share or print them.
In-home photo sessions are ideal for both newborn and family sessions. Not only do you still get to capture special moments, but you can also look back on how you spent time together as a family.
Planning Your in-home Photo Session
- Find the right photographer. Naturally, you want to work with a photographer that’s experienced and is easy to communicate with. You should also look at their photography style to decide if it matches what you had in mind. It also helps to take a quick look at any photos from past in-home sessions.
- Let the light in. Walk through your home and pick three rooms that have the most natural light and decide whether they can be used for your photos. Sometimes, simply clearing away some clutter can turn a room into the perfect photo backdrop. If there is only one room in your home that has good natural lighting, you can always create your own backdrop in that space specifically for your photo session.
- Dress appropriately. Just because your photo session is at home doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look the part. In the same way that you would plan your outfits, hair, and makeup for a traditional photo session, do the same for your in-home session. Pajamas can be used as outfits but only if you’re going for a cozy, intimate style.
- Have a prop nearby. If you’re feeling nervous about your photo session, it helps to have something in the room that can be used to keep your hands busy. Having a few props can also add something unique to your photos. This can be anything from a book or a coffee mug to a puzzle.
Now, all that’s left to do is schedule your session.
