This past fall I had another beautiful family session at Tamarack Nature Center. Mom and dad looked amazing, and their little boy was dressed to the nines from Piccoli & Co., a shop that specializes in classic clothing with a modern twist. To top it off, this session was extra special as Dad planned to propose to Mom! Read on for more details about this magical moment.
Dressing the Part
It’s no secret that dressing your little one up for any kind of photo session can be daunting. Let’s face it—kids grow quickly and clothes are often hard to find or too expensive. That's one of the reasons I offer a studio wardrobe for you to choose items from. But if you want to purchase your own pieces I recommend checking out shops like Zara, H&M for affordable options or places like Feltman Brothers or Piccoli & Co., which specialize in luxury baby clothing which keep your baby style classically.
I have photographed this baby for his 6 month and 1 year sessions and both times he was dressed adorably from Feltman Brothers.
For this session, mom showed up looking stunning in a beautiful green velvet dress that I actually have available in my client closet—talk about luck! As for mom and dad’s little boy? He was dressed to perfection from Piccoli & Co., every part of his outfit complete with a modern twist on classic style. This shop has clothing made in Europe but ships all over the world. Not only do they have the best stuff, but their Instagram feed is also worth checking out!
The Epic Proposal
To make things even better, Dad had something special planned for Mom—he had planned ahead to use this family session as an opportunity to propose! It was funny because I kept trying to place them in epic locations around the nature center but I wasn't actually sure when or how he wanted to propose. Apparently he was hoping to have their son off to the side while he did it but baby did not want to be put down at all during the session.
But when Adam Thielen arrived for his own family photos at Tamarack Nature Center a light bulb must of went off in dad's head because from there on out he was set on introducing himself to Adam. So towards the end of the session when I was myself running out of ideas for him to pop the question he ran over to Adam (who was just a few yards away) and told him his plan. Mom was really confused and I was only a bit baffled. But dad had handed their son off to Adam in front of us and then proceeded to propose right there on the trail. I wasn't quite where I would have liked to grab those special pictures but I still managed to capture the moment for them. I’m so honored that I was able to document it all.
All in all, this family session was one that I won’t soon forget—it wasn’t just about capturing beautiful moments between loved ones, but also about documenting a special milestone between two people who are deeply in love. If you’re planning your own family photos this next year, don't forget that anything is possible when it comes to creating lasting memories with those you love most and I'd love to be the photographer you choose.
