What Your Photographer Wishes You Knew
Your photographer desires for each and every photo session to go smoothly and for clients to have the most enjoyable experience possible. Many people believe that a photographer’s job is pretty simple. You just point and shoot, right? The reality is that there’s a lot more that goes into capturing the images you love. There are also some things many photographers secretly wish they could come right out and say to their clients. Here are a few examples.
1. We're Nervous Too
You might not realize it, but photographers get nervous too. We know how important your photo shoot is to you. You've been agonizing over the perfect outfits, spent hours on your hair and makeup, and have probably imagined how the photos will turn out dozens of times. We understand that you’re expecting us to capture you perfectly so that you can cherish the images from our brief time together for years to come. That’s a lot of pressure, and while we may be confident in our abilities, we get nervous before each shoot as well. We want everything to go perfectly for you.
This nervousness isn't a sign of doubt in our skills; it’s a reflection of our passion for our work and our desire to meet or exceed your expectations. Each shoot is a unique challenge, and even though we’ve done this hundreds or even thousands of times, we still feel those butterflies in our stomachs. But that nervous energy also drives us to deliver our best work, to find those perfect moments that will make you smile whenever you look at your photos.
2. We Don't Want to Fix Every Little Flaw
One of the things many people don’t realize is that they’re beautiful in their own way, and photographers strive to capture this unique beauty in their shots. It’s for this reason that we only make minor adjustments when editing your photos. Yes, Photoshop can work wonders, and technically, we could fix every little detail that you’re unhappy with in your photos, but this isn’t practical, and more importantly, it’s not authentic.
Photography is about capturing real moments, real expressions, and real people. If we were to airbrush away every wrinkle, remove every blemish, and reshape every curve, the final image wouldn’t be you. It’s important to embrace your unique features because that’s what makes the photograph truly special. Do your best to make yourself picture-perfect before the session, and we will take care of the rest. We believe in enhancing your natural beauty rather than altering it.
3. We Take Our Pricing Seriously
Photography, like any other professional service, is priced according to the quality, experience, and time we spend with each client. When we hear people joke about how high our prices are compared to other photographers, what we actually hear is that you don't think we are good enough to charge that price. It makes us doubt our abilities and simply hurts our feelings.
Pricing isn’t just a number pulled out of thin air; it’s a reflection of the years of experience, the expensive equipment, the time spent in post-production, and the creative energy we put into each session. When you invest in a professional photographer, you’re not just paying for the hour or two of the session; you’re paying for our expertise, our vision, and the dedication to capturing moments that you’ll treasure forever. We want you to understand that our pricing is a representation of the value we bring to your memories, and it’s something we take very seriously.
4. Have Fun
Chances are, we've seen it all—kids throwing tantrums, a surprise thunderstorm, and wardrobe malfunctions. Things can and do go wrong during photo sessions, but it’s crucial not to stress about them. We will work our magic to make your shoot the best experience possible, but this means you need to relax and just have fun.
When you’re enjoying yourself, we can better capture your unique personality and fun-loving nature, which is what we really want to do. If you stress out about your kids misbehaving, we end up feeling anxious, which can affect the way we take your images. No matter what goes wrong, simply laugh it off. We always have backup plans and ideas up our sleeves. The best photos often come from unplanned moments, so embrace the chaos and trust that we’ll handle the rest.
5. Trust Us
You hired us for a reason, and we’re hoping it was because you looked through our portfolio and liked what you saw. It’s hard for us to do our best work and make you look your best if you don't take our suggestions or trust that we know what looks good. We are seeing things from a perspective you cannot see, so let us do our job.
It is our job to make you look good and take images that you will love for years to come. This is something we take great pride in, so trust that we would never ask you to pose in a way that is not flattering. We’ve studied angles, lighting, and composition, and we know what works. Trust us, and we will do everything we can to ensure you are thrilled with the results. We would never steer you wrong because your satisfaction is what drives our creativity.
6. We Love What We Do
We love what we do for a living, and as photographers and artists, we want to share our passion and joy with the world. However, sometimes clients can forget that we’re also working professionals. We want to produce the very best results for each and every one of our clients, which is why it’s important that prospective customers know what to expect when working with a professional photographer.
Our goal is to create memories that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. We pour our hearts into every session, and when you trust us, have fun, and let us guide you, the results are always worth it. By understanding what goes on behind the scenes, you can appreciate the effort and care that goes into making your session not just a photo shoot, but an unforgettable experience.
