There’s nothing quite like the sweet innocence of a newborn baby. Whether it’s your first or fifth child, you want to be able to capture those precious moments and create lasting memories of their infancy. A professional photoshoot is the perfect way to do just that! But what should you expect from your little one’s first photoshoot? Let’s cover some basics so that you know exactly how to prepare for this special event at my NE Minneapolis studio.
Preparing for the Photoshoot
The best time for a newborn photoshoot is within the first two weeks of life when babies are still very sleepy and can more easily be wrapped or placed into classic poses. Once you have booked your session, plan to arrive on time and make sure that baby has been fed right before leaving home. It's also important to make sure baby is comfortable. If it’s cold outside, make sure they have an extra layer of clothing on or bring a blanket. A pacifier can also help calm them down if needed during the session. Think about bringing one of the ones linked in case you need to keep it in during photos.
Be Patient During the Session
It's normal for babies to take breaks during their session as they need time to eat and rest. As long as baby is happy, try not to worry about his or her sleepiness level as this will likely be short-lived anyway! When he or she wakes up, take advantage of those sweet alert moments by changing them into an outfit change or putting them in a different pose—just don't rush things since these moments are fleeting! Additionally, try not to worry about any breaks in concentration; these are totally normal too! If baby starts fussing, just give him/her a break until he/she calms down again before resuming posing.
Discuss any specific shots you may want ahead of time with your photographer so that they can plan accordingly. This could include family shots, individual portraits of each parent with the baby, or even special props like a hat or basket! Make sure you bring along anything that might help personalize your photos and add an extra touch of creativity. Having everything ready beforehand will also help keep things running smoothly during the session itself which means fewer interruptions and more opportunities for great photos!
Unpopular opinion but Michele does not believe in putting babies in uncomfortable and unnatural poses. Babies are not frogs or tacos they are beautiful just the way they are. Michele practices baby-led posing allowing baby to fall into their natural position safely and beautifully.
A professional photoshoot is the perfect way to capture all those precious moments in time with your new bundle of joy! With proper preparation and planning ahead of time, everything should go smoothly on shoot day itself so that you can focus on enjoying each moment spent with baby while making memories that will last forever! So get ready for a fun-filled experience filled with lots of love and laughter. Contact Michele today if you are ready to book or just want more information.
