Pet Photography Commonly Asked Questions.
Photography sessions aren’t just for human kids! They’re perfect for showing off the personality (and adorable noses) of your fur babies. I’ve answered your most frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your cuddle bug’s day in the spotlight.
1) What should I bring to the photo session?
Two items will help the photography session run smoothly. The first is treats! The second is a friendly face. To help your pet feel comfortable, one person can sit next to them (just out of the shot) and the other can stand next to the camera, to get their attention.
2) How can I best prepare for the session?
Choose what photos are the most important to you. For example, if you want to capture your dog playing Frisbee, let me know before we start. We’ll head to the park first. The best photographs are often captured at the beginning of a shoot.
3) Does my pet need to be trained for the session?
Nope! It's nice if they have a bit of knowledge of basic commands though. Knowing basic commands such as sit, come and lay down are helpful, but they aren’t required. Don't worry if your pup chooses not sit when asked. He or she will eventually sit, and that’s when I’ll get the shot. If necessary, I can work some magic in Photoshop to remove leashes, hands, etc…
4) I’d like to get a photo of me (or my family members) with my pet, can I be in some of the photos?
Yes, of course! Let us know before your appointment. Compliment your pet’s fur with solid color clothing and pick a neutral color (not matching) that hides pet hair.
5) The park we want use at has a leash law, what do we do?!
No problem! Have a thin retractable leash available during the session that can then be edited out of the photo later. It’ll look as if your lil’ guy was roaming the wild!
6) My house is small, I don’t think it will look good in photos.
That’s ok! Mansions aren’t necessary for gorgeous pictures; I take great shots in small areas too as long as there’s natural light from a window. Keep in mind, the location doesn’t have to be your house; we can shoot anywhere that’s meaningful for you and your pet!
7) Do you charge for additional pets?
This really depends on what you are thinking for your session. 3 dogs with your family? Fine! 3 dogs, a cat, a horse, a llama in pajamas and a pet gecko? We might need to have a discussion of expectations.
8) How long do the sessions last?
While there is no time limit on my signature sessions they do tend to last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
9) How far in advance do you schedule sessions?
Photography sessions are usually booked 1-2 months in advance. Just let me know what date you have in mind and I will be happy to check my calendar. If I have the date available, we will get you on the calendar, creative fees are due 2 weeks before the session takes place.
10) Do you offer commercial or stock photography?
Yes, I offer stock photography for purchase. Please contact me for more details, as each project is unique.
