I had the pleasure of photographing this newborn family at my studio a couple of months ago, and I'm so excited to share some images from our session! Newborn photography is one of my favorite things to do - there's something so special about capturing those early days with a new baby. 

The joy on Kourtny and Brandon's faces when they brought Nova into the session was absolute perfection. There wasn't anything but pure happiness in every frame of this newborn photo shoot.

"I didn’t believe the pregnancy stick! I called my sister and showed her the picture of it to confirm if it was indeed positive. We had tried for awhile without luck so I was starting to believe it just wouldn’t happen for us. So happy it did!" Kourtny said when I asked them about the moment they found out they were pregnant! And now here they are!

Mom mentioned how much relief she had when she saw her baby for the first time.  She had been in labor for 53 hours, and she was so happy that she and the baby were both okay. Baby Nova was alert and making sweet noises, and the first thing she noticed was that she had her daddy's hands. 

During the photo session baby was kind of crabby and crying off and on throughout the session. But staying patient and calm and letting the parents take their time to feed and soothe her is the key to a successful photo session. Mom mentioned to me that they were actually surprised at how many cute photos I was able to get despite all of it! I guess it just goes to show that even when things don't go perfectly, you can still end up with some pretty great results.

When I asked mom how she prepared for the session she told me she didn't have to do much since I provided the clothing and all she had to do was feed and change a diaper to make sure Nova was content.  That's my goal; I don't want clients to have to worry too much about the photo session.  I want to make it as stress free as possible.

What's the advice they'd give to anyone thinking about a newborn family photos?  "Absolutely just get them!" I also loved that she told me how much she enjoyed just letting me do my thing and not going into the session with specific shots or expectations.  That last part is a perfect statement for all photo sessions.  If you can just go into your photo session being present and enjoying the moment and forget about all the different poses or shots you want, you'll find the whole process that much more enjoyable.  Especially when you have a toddler.  lol
