There are so many amazing dads out there, but family photo sessions are not always at the top of their lists of things they really want to do. Once they see the results though, they’re always glad they took the time to do it. The trick is convincing them to do it in the first place.
Here are a few tips that can help make convincing your husband to book a family photoshoot a little easier.
- Explain why it matters. This is a chance to speak from your heart and explain why this photo session is so important to you. One thing that photographers often hear from moms is that for once, they want to be on the other side of the camera instead of having to take the photos. Your husband probably doesn’t feel the need to schedule a session because there are already so many photos of him with your kids on your phone or camera. Explaining your reasons for wanting to take new family photos is one way to convince him to join.
- Photo sessions aren’t the same as they used to be. Many people have uncomfortable memories of being in front of the camera. They remember being forced to pose in a mall for 10 minutes, while people looked on – nobody wants to relive that. Explain to your husband how photoshoots have changed. There’s no need to have an audience and if he’s happy to take more candid shots than anything else, there will be minimal posing.
- There are different collections available. If your husband is reluctant due to costs, take him through your photographer’s various packages. If you don’t want to book a full session, there’s always the option of scheduling a mini or petite session, which is shorter and more affordable. Plus, can you really put a price on capturing beautiful moments with your children and partner?
- Browse through albums together. Take an afternoon to browse through some of your old photo albums as a family. Seeing these memories will hopefully remind your husband how important it is to update your photos before your kids are out of the house.
If you’ve already found a photographer you love, take your husband through some of their past sessions to show him how different family photo sessions are today and what he can look forward to afterwards.
