I get a lot of questions on what should boys wear to a photo session. It seems overwhelming but boys are actually really easy. I usually advise mamas to dress themselves then their daughters and then the boys (husbands and sons). I offer wardrobe to moms and dads and kids up to age 5 (I do have some items going into size 6 & 7) So where does that leave older boys who have aged out of my studio wardrobe? Easy. . . crewnecks, button downs and henleys are my first choice! This style I recommend for dads too. I'm not really a fan of polo shirts, those are great on the golf course (or polo field) but not so much for a photo session. Basics are best. I advise to stay away from plaid especially in the studio and I say to gravitate towards solids in basic colors like cream, light grey & lighter blues and sometimes greens. Here are some examples:
Now if you're wondering ok the tops are pretty easy we got something like that at home, but what about pants?! That's easy too. Light colored chinos are best but you can also do casual pants in light grey or even dress shorts are ok especially if your child is a short wearing type of kid. Jeans are fine too but again I'd lean towards the light washes if this is something you want your child to wear.
Here are the commissionable links for all the items above:
Kids Uniform Relaxed Fit Khakis
Kids Straight Hybrid Tech Pant
Above all else remember to stay away from shirts with wild patterns, bright colors and graphics/logos. While all the above items can be bought at The Gap don't show up with a sweatshirt that says "THE GAP" on it. lol
Now that the boys are taken care of want to take a peek at the studio wardrobe for moms?
