Maple Grove Newborn Photographer for Relaxed In-Home Sessions
As a Maple Grove Newborn Photographer, I love getting to photograph families right in their own homes. This in-home lifestyle newborn photography session was such a sweet one. I honestly think in-home newborn sessions can feel less stressful for everyone involved.
This session felt especially perfect because the first snowfall of the season arrived that day. Since I came to their Maple Grove home, they didn’t have to bundle up their new baby and big brother or make the drive to my Northeast Minneapolis studio.
I love being able to offer both in-home newborn sessions and studio newborn sessions to my clients. There is something so special about photographing a newborn in their natural environment. Babies get to stay cozy at home, and families can relax in a space that already feels familiar.
At the same time, I still love welcoming families into my light and airy Northeast Minneapolis studio. Studio newborn sessions can be a great option for families whose homes may not have a lot of natural light. Whether I photograph a family in their home or in my studio, I always approach newborn sessions with the same relaxed lifestyle style.
Why In-Home Newborn Photography Works So Well With Older Siblings
Another benefit of having your newborn photo session at home is that younger kids already feel comfortable there. They don’t have to adjust to a new or unfamiliar place. Instead, they can play, take breaks, and join us when they feel ready.
I often have families wonder if they should invite grandma, grandpa, or another family member over to help with an older sibling. That can definitely work if you don’t mind your older child sitting out for some of the photos.
However, if you really want big brother or big sister included in your newborn photos, I usually recommend keeping your home free of extra visitors during the session. Younger kids naturally want to stay close to their parents. When someone special comes over, they may decide that hanging out with grandma or grandpa sounds much more fun than taking pictures!
Instead, I like to let siblings participate without pressure. They can take a break, play in their room, grab a snack, or just watch what we’re doing. Most of the time, they naturally come back when they’re ready. That gives me a chance to capture genuine sibling interactions without forcing anything.
Lifestyle Newborn Photography in Your Own Home
Now let’s get to the really good stuff — the photos!
As a Maple Grove Newborn Photographer, I always love seeing how each in-home newborn session comes together. This one was especially hard to narrow down because there were so many sweet moments. I even had my daughter help me choose favorites, and she kept saying, “This session is so good. It’s so hard to choose!”
She was right. This family ended up with a lot of images because I had such a hard time letting any of them go.
One of my favorite moments happened when I asked big brother what his new baby sister smelled like. His reaction was absolutely priceless. Those funny, unscripted moments are one of the reasons I love lifestyle newborn photography so much.
When I photograph families in their own homes, I can let moments unfold naturally instead of forcing every image. Kids can be themselves. Parents can relax. And those little expressions, snuggles, and reactions often become some of the most meaningful photos from the entire session.
That relaxed approach is a big part of what I love about being a Maple Grove Newborn Photographer. I want families to look back at their newborn photos and remember not only how their baby looked, but also how this season of life actually felt.
A Cozy Maple Grove Newborn Session on a Snowy Day
There is something extra special about photographing a newborn at home while the first snowfall of the season happens outside. As a Maple Grove Newborn Photographer, I love that in-home sessions let families stay warm, cozy, and comfortable. This family didn’t have to bundle up their new baby or big brother. Instead, we created relaxed photographs right in the place they call home.
That is one of my favorite things about working as a Maple Grove Newborn Photographer and offering in-home newborn photography throughout the Minneapolis area. Families don’t have to rush out the door with a brand-new baby or worry about packing everything they might need. I come to them, which gives us more time to slow down and document those sweet, everyday moments in a space that already means so much to their family.
In-home newborn sessions also give me the chance to photograph details that are unique to each family. The nursery, favorite blankets, cozy bedrooms, and even those quiet moments on the couch can all become part of the story. I love creating images that feel natural and personal while still giving families the light and airy style they expect from my newborn photography.
And because Minnesota likes to keep things interesting, I’m ending this snowy Maple Grove newborn session with something completely different! At the end of this post, I’m sharing a Carlsbad Beach Photographer who photographed a colorful family beach session. We may have been surrounded by Minnesota snow, but somewhere else families were still soaking up sunshine and enjoying the beach!
