I had a very lovely in home lifestyle newborn photography session at this beautiful family’s Maple Grove home. I just love in home lifestyle newborn sessions, I honestly think they are less stressful for everyone involved.  Having this type of photo session was perfect for this family because this day was the first snow fall of the season, and with me coming to them they didn’t have to bundle baby or big brother up and leave the house to travel to my Northeast Minneapolis studio.  I love that I can offer these sessions to clients plus I really like photographing newborns in their natural environment.  Don’t get me wrong, I still fully enjoy offering my light and airy studio to families with newborns who may not have all the natural light in their homes. I’m still a lifestyle photographer whether I’m in my studio or in someone’s home.  

Another benefit to having a photo session in your home is younger kids are right at home.  They aren’t anxious about being someplace new or unfamiliar.  I do have a lot of families who think having someone there will help “wrangle” the sibling or keep them distracted and the second is definitely true.  When grandma or papa or auntie is there younger kids will more likely just want to be with them and not participate in the photos.  So if you don’t necessarily want that big brother or sister in the photos then by all means invite someone over for the photo session to watch brother or sister.  But if you would like your older child to be in the photos I highly recommend keeping your house free of visitors during your session.  Your child will naturally want to be in the same room as you and your spouse so even if they decide to take a break from pictures to play in their room alone for a bit they will more likely join back up with us when they are ready, making it easier to capture photos with them without being pressured to do so.

Ok let’s get to the good stuff and share so many favorites from this session.  I had such a hard time culling the images that I had my daughter help me and even she was like “this session is so good, it’s so hard to choose”  Let’s just say this family ended up with a ton of images because I had a hard time getting rid of any of them.  Oh and you got to see brother’s reaction when I asked what his sister smelled like.  I think seriously one of my favorite images . . . .
