Spring in Minnesota is actually one of my favorite seasons. I say one of my favorites because personally summer is my all time favorite BUT spring is my favorite time to photograph children and family sessions. YES even more so than autumn. Spring is probably the fastest season of all. It goes by in a blink of an eye. (Kind of like how I feel about how fast kids grow!) Fall at least lasts a few weeks but those flowering trees in May last but maybe a week! It’s fast. But if you can schedule your session before the flowering trees have rid their flowers for green leaves it’s the most rewarding. You won’t regret it. Mid May is the best chance. Like fall it does change year from year. And if we decide the trees aren’t yet bloomed enough we can always reschedule for a day or two later because I’m telling you, it’s like one day the trees are bare and the next they are beautifully lit with pink and white flowers. It is so lovely to photograph the flowering trees. I have now been photographing my own family and children during this time for a few years now. Usually every year I wonder where I’ll photograph but last year I found the perfect location at one of my favorite all time locations for clients so I will continue to go back there with my own children and clients.

I like to schedule this sessions between mid May to the first of June. Anytime after that will probably have a lack of buds on the trees. Of course though it’s spring time and even if you miss the flowering trees it’s still quite lovely to get out there and photograph your children and family among the newly leafed trees. Warm weather and sunshine beckons.
