I met this little guy on superhero day at The University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital. Now let's be real; everyday is superhero day in the NICUs. The nurses are superheros, parents are superheros and these little fighters are superheros. But U of M Masonic actually had superheros come visit the hospital on this day. It's a day dedicated to the superheros. This superhero was born at 24 weeks. He had an ostomy from a bowel perforation on the 5th day of his life. This series of images were photographed prior to his surgery (mom wanted to document pictures with baby's ostomy bag on). I can't tell you how important it is to document this journey. It can be tough and hard and ugly. But my goal is to make it look beautiful. I know it's hard to imagine but I do it every time.
Stay tuned for the blog post that will share his second photo session after his surgery. And if you'd like to follow this superhero's story; look him up on Facebook under Jack Attack
