Minneapolis Fresh 48 Photographer
As a Minneapolis Fresh 48 Photographer, some of my very favorite newborn sessions happen before families even leave the hospital. There is something so tender about those first hours with a new baby. Everything is fresh and new. The tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, wrinkly feet, hospital bracelets, and the way parents look at their baby like they still cannot quite believe they are really here.
I have always loved photographing newborns, and I have a special place in my heart for NICU sessions. But Fresh 48 sessions in birth centers and hospital rooms have their own kind of beauty. They are calm, emotional, simple, and full of little moments that pass quickly once everyone gets home.
Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph this sweet family at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, and it reminded me exactly why I love these sessions so much. There is nothing overly posed or complicated about a Fresh 48 session. It is simply your baby, your family, and the beautiful beginning of a brand new chapter.
Why I Love Fresh 48 Sessions
I love Fresh 48 sessions because they capture the newness of baby in such an honest and meaningful way. These sessions are not about perfection. They are about the first snuggles, sleepy yawns, proud smiles, and tiny details you will want to remember long after those first few days become a blur.
There is something so special about photographing a baby while they are still brand new. Their little features change so quickly, even in the first week. Those curled up hands, fresh cheeks, tiny hospital blankets, and first family moments are all part of the story.
As a Minneapolis Fresh 48 Photographer, I love being able to document these quiet, emotional moments before families head home. It is such a short window of time, but it holds so much meaning.
Fresh 48 sessions also allow parents to be photographed in a way that feels natural. You do not need to have the nursery finished. You do not need to clean your house. You do not need to worry about planning outfits for everyone. These sessions happen right where you are, in your hospital room or birth center space, during those first hours of getting to know your baby.
What to Expect During Your Session
During your Fresh 48 session, I will come to your hospital room and spend about 45 minutes with you and your new baby. The session is relaxed, simple, and baby led. I will photograph baby alone, baby with each parent, and your family together if you would like.
I also love capturing the tiny details that are so easy to forget later. Things like baby’s hospital bracelet, their little bassinet, tiny toes, swaddles, first hats, and the way they fit so perfectly in your arms. These details may seem small in the moment, but they become some of the most meaningful images later.
As your Minneapolis Fresh 48 Photographer, I gently guide you when needed, but these sessions are meant to feel natural and easy. Most of the time, I am simply looking for beautiful light, meaningful connection, and those little in between moments that tell the story of your baby’s first days.
You do not need to worry about having everything “just so.” Truly. Your hospital room does not need to look perfect. You do not need to feel fully put together. You just had a baby. That is more than enough.
Fresh 48 sessions are especially wonderful for families who want newborn photos but also love the idea of documenting the very beginning. These images have a different feeling than studio newborn photos or in home newborn photos. They are more documentary, more immediate, and full of that brand new baby feeling that only lasts for a very short time.
Just take a look at how beautiful this Fresh 48 session is at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.

University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, and Fairview Southdale are just a few of the most popular hospitals that I visit, but I photograph Fresh 48 sessions in many hospitals and birth centers throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.
If you are hoping to book a Fresh 48 session, it is best to reach out while you are still pregnant so I can add your due date to my calendar. Since babies tend to have their own opinions about arrival dates, Fresh 48 sessions are scheduled with flexibility. Once baby arrives, you or your partner can let me know, and we will choose the best time for me to come to the hospital.
Most Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first 24 to 48 hours after birth, depending on your delivery, recovery, hospital policies, and discharge timing. For C section births, the session may happen closer to 48 to 72 hours, and that is completely okay. The goal is to document this sweet season while baby is still brand new, but always in a way that feels comfortable for you.
If you are looking for a Minneapolis Fresh 48 Photographer, I would be honored to document this special time for your family. These first few days are full of emotion, softness, and tiny details that deserve to be remembered.
To book your Fresh 48 session, please send me an email with your due date so I can add you to my calendar.
