If you’ve ever wondered what actually happens after you hit “send” on my contact form, you’re not alone. Most families tell me they’re excited but also a little unsure especially if it’s their first time booking a professional photo session in a while (or ever).

This post walks you through exactly what it’s like to work with me, from inquiry to gallery delivery, so you can feel calm, confident, and maybe even a little excited to get in front of the camera.

Because your photos shouldn’t just look beautiful the experience should feel good, too.

Stage 1: Before the Session — Inquiry + Planning

When you reach out, you’ll hear from me directly no automated replies, no studio assistants. I’ll ask a few thoughtful questions about your family, what you’re hoping for, and which stage of motherhood you’re in. From there, I’ll help you figure out what kind of session fits best: maternity, newborn, baby milestone, or a relaxed family session that captures everyone together.

Once we’ve chatted a bit, I’ll send over your booking link so we can get your date on the calendar.

Taking the overwhelm out of planning

I know planning a photo session can feel like a lot figuring out outfits, locations, naps, snacks, and hoping everyone cooperates. That’s exactly why I make the prep stage simple and supportive.

Every client receives a prep guide that covers what to expect, how to prepare little ones, and how to make the day go smoothly. I also share a wardrobe lookbook and styling guidance whether you want to borrow something from my studio wardrobe (I have dresses for moms, shirts for dads, and outfits for little ones under five) or mix in your own pieces.

For clients who love simple, timeless children’s styles, I often recommend Jamie Kay — their pieces photograph beautifully and pair effortlessly with the studio wardrobe.

If hair and makeup would help you feel your best, I can connect you with local artists I trust here in the Twin Cities. My goal? You show up feeling relaxed and confident, not stressed and second-guessing.

Most clients tell me they start out feeling excited but unsure What do I wear? Will the kids cooperate? What if I feel awkward? By the time your session day arrives, you’ll have answers to all of it, and a plan that actually feels doable.

Stage 2: During the Session — The Experience

Whether we’re in my Minneapolis studio or outdoors around the Twin Cities, sessions with me are calm, flexible, and child-led.

The biggest thing I want families to know: I don’t expect perfection. Kids wiggle, babies need to eat, and toddlers run in circles it’s all part of the story.

I’ll gently guide you through natural posing and connection prompts so you never feel awkward or unsure what to do with your hands. You’ll hear me giving little cues like, “Whisper something silly,” or “Look at your baby the way you do when no one’s watching.”

By the first few minutes, nerves usually fade. Parents often tell me, “This was actually fun.” That’s when the magic happens those small, real moments that feel like your family, not a performance.

I also have a knack for calming the chaos when kids have big energy. We take breaks, we play, and we follow their lead. Those in-between moments? They’re often the ones that end up framed on your wall.

Stage 3: After the Session — Editing + Gallery Delivery

Once your session wraps, I carefully curate and hand-edit your images not rushing, but giving them the time and attention they deserve.

Your slideshow will arrive in your inbox in about three weeks, so you can sit down with a cup of coffee (or glass of wine) and experience your gallery for the first time.

Most families tell me they tear up during this part it’s emotional seeing your family the way others see you. You’ll have 24 hours after viewing your slideshow to choose your collection.

I offer three collections with every Signature Session, but the Legacy Collection is the most loved it includes all of your images plus a $400 print credit. You can use that credit toward heirloom-quality albums, framed pieces, or keepsakes that become part of your home.

After you purchase your collection, you’ll have 30 days to download your final images and use your print credit. If you need guidance on choosing artwork or albums, I’m here to help no confusing packages or pushy sales, just simple, personal support.

The Experience in a Nutshell

  • Inquiry: You reach out, I respond personally, and we talk through your session goals.

  • Planning: I send your prep guide, styling support, and wardrobe access.

  • Session: Relaxed, natural, kid-friendly direction (with plenty of grace for chaos).

  • Gallery: Delivered within three weeks, complete with slideshow + print credit options.

Why Families Love This Process

Most of my clients are busy parents juggling work, naps, school drop-offs, and endless to-do lists. They don’t want another project they want someone who makes the entire photo experience easy, calm, and meaningful.

By the time your images arrive, you’ll have more than beautiful photos you’ll have proof of this fleeting season, captured in a way that feels real and effortless.
