As a Minneapolis newborn and maternity photographer, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful family for their in home newborn photography session. I had previously done a maternity session with them in the studio, and the photos turned out beautifully. So, I was excited to work with them again for their newborn shoot.

When I arrived at their home in Roseville, I was immediately struck by how relaxed and comfortable they were. I find that doing newborn shoots in the family’s home is the best way to capture natural moments. It’s a familiar environment, and the baby is more at ease.

The parents didn’t do anything special to prepare the baby for the shoot, which was perfect for me. I love capturing the baby’s natural movements and expressions. The more relaxed and natural the baby is, the better the photos turn out.

During the session, I focused on capturing the family’s natural interactions and emotions. Seeing the parents’ joy and love for their baby was incredibly moving. When I asked them how they felt when they first saw their baby, they simply said it was indescribable. I knew exactly what they meant – the feeling of holding your newborn child for the first time is something that can’t be put into words.

One of my favorite moments from the shoot was when the family brought out a sweater and hat that the baby’s grandmother had made. It was a sentimental item that added a personal touch to the photos. It’s those little details that make the photos truly special.

Mom had expressed to me after the session that she was initially worried about how her postpartum body would come across in the photos. She realized that the love and connection between her and her daughter were the most important aspects of the session. As a photographer, I’m always glad to see parents embracing the moment and being present in the shoot, as those emotions come through in the photos.

Working with this family for their newborn photography session was a joy. It’s always an honor to capture these special moments for families. As a photographer, I’m grateful for the opportunity to create lasting memories for my clients.
