As a photographer, I can talk about the importance of family photos all day long. I cannot tell you how often I hear about people regretting not taking photos with their family members all the time. Family photos are some of the most valuable images you'll ever have done. Not only is documenting your family with up-to-date portraits important but so are the products and prints that you use to tell your story and hand down to generations.
I cannot stress enough the importance of creating something that can tell the story of your family and that will last for years to come.
Taking photos at family events is one thing, but taking the initiative to get professional family photos taken is valuable beyond measure. If you are considering scheduling for family portraits then you have have already recognized the value of documenting your family through photos.
I know it seems stressful to figure out everyone's schedules especially when the hubby travels and you work and the kids have sports, but getting the family together and making time for family photos is so worth it. Kids grow and change fast. Grandparents are getting older. Time is of the essence, so it’s never a bad time to start. The next step? Deciding what to do with them.
Let me count the ways or reasons why you should have photos around your home. Sparking the memories of those special times in life, telling the story of your growing family. Reminding you of the times your babies were little. Photos are so personal and add such an incredible element making a house a home. There is nothing more special than being surrounded by photos of the people you love.
Tell Your Family Story
An album or book is a great way to showcase all the images from your photo sessions. You can flip through the pages any time and recount the story of that photo session and all of the memories associated with it. Coffee table books and heirloom albums are perfect for displaying on bookcases or right on the coffee table. The best part? The easy access to your images. No more searching and standing around the computer to look on your hard drive. Your images are right there in a book to pass around in the comfort of your own couch.
You may not realize it at this moment, but your album or book becomes a keepsake. It can become a family heirloom passed down through generations. I still have a photo album my grandmother gave to me and I cannot tell you how treasured it is to me. Photos make incredible heirlooms because of their ability to spark memories and preserve the ancestry of your family. Books and albums should be telling the story of your family for years.
Keep creating your family memories. And if you want me to get you started just let me know I'd love to start documenting your family as it deserves.

Ute - You're so right about everything you said! Family photos are a great conversation starter. My kids are almost grown up now and I regret we didn't take more professional images when they were little.
