Embracing Cozy Moments: An In-Home Lifestyle Photo Session in North Oaks

As the Midwest chill settles in and the leaves have long fallen, there’s something truly special about cozying up for an in-home lifestyle photo session. I’ve had the privilege of capturing this wonderful North Oaks family since the youngest was still in mom’s belly. I was going to say baby, but she’s not a baby anymore—time flies! Watching these kiddos grow has been an absolute joy.

Over the years, we’ve created countless memories, from jumping through sprinklers in the summer to snowball fights in the winter, right in their own backyard. But this time, we decided to keep things even more relaxed, focusing on simply hanging out at home. These sessions are often the most magical because they don’t feel like a photo session at all—which, let’s face it, is a huge win for kids who might not always be thrilled about posing for the camera.

If you’re thinking about scheduling your own in-home lifestyle session, here’s a tip: plan for at least three activities. Whether it’s a low-key game or storytime or going all out with pancake or cookie-making, having options keeps the energy up and the kids engaged.

For this North Oaks, Minnesota session, we didn’t just stay indoors—we bundled up and enjoyed some fresh air too. The kids had a blast throwing the football, kicking a soccer ball around, and taking turns jumping off the swing (which is always a fun challenge to capture—those mid-air shots are unpredictable, but so worth it!).
