This beautiful family came into the studio to celebrate baby boy’s 1st Birthday with a cake smash session. When we smash a cake these sessions are signature sessions which means they are approximately an hour but there is actually no time limit. I do not do petite sessions with an actual cake. Though you can have a 1 year milestone session without a cake and that could be a smaller session if you’d like. With signature cake smash sessions we have plenty of time to photograph the whole family and baby’s milestone. At the end of the session we will bring out the cake because once the cake makes it’s appearance the show is over. No need to worry about clean-up because I have you covered.

Cake smash sessions in my Northeast Minneapolis studio are so much fun. The cakes parents bring in are oh so yummy looking and babies love them. It’s so joyful to watch these babies go to town on their cakes. I love simple cakes with no props. I know many parents ask about balloons and I used to do them but I find that they just get in the way and are really unpredictable plus they are distracting for the portraits in the beginning. I love focusing on your child without props and this makes your session that much more of an heirloom quality that you will not miss balloons.

I usually suggest no more than two outfit changes for these sessions because one thing to consider is babies (and children) get tired of having their clothing changed constantly. While I do provide wardrobe for sessions during an actual cake smash you will need to provide your own cake smash outfit or baby will be in a diaper cover only during this portion of the session. Here though mom had all her outfits taken care of. So many adorable dresses for big sister and even a fun costume change in the middle. Enjoy!
