As soon as the warm weather hits in the spring my teen daughter and I get antsy to get outside in the backyard and take photos. While snow sessions are fun in the beginning we get burnt out on them quick because it’s just too cold out. But spring! Oh how we love the warm weather and new clothes. Of course everything is still dead and brown but that doesn’t stop us! Many times when I grab my camera for a quick outside photo session with my daughter I grab my film camera. Which is exactly what I did here and because it was bright out I used Portra 160 film. This is going to be the stock that replaces Fuji 400h.

These images were actually taken last spring during Covid. We had cute outfits and no where to wear them! This year spring sort of sneaked up on us early and ended all too quickly, I didn’t get as many images as I was hoping but hey there is always next spring!

Spring is my favorite time for photo sessions because it’s not terribly hot though you do have to worry about weather on the day of your session but really that isn’t any different than any other time of the year. Everything is blooming and beautiful (ok not here in these images) Pink is my favorite color so I love getting out among the pink trees. Everything is light bright and airy, it’s just perfect for photo sessions. It’s best to book your spring photo sessions in the winter and reschedule as necessary depending on when the trees bloom. Unlike with fall sessions spring photo sessions in Minnesota are extremely limited. Spring lasts about one weekend, once the trees bloom it does not last long at all. Every year is different too. We’ve had early blooms and we’ve had late blooms and we just never know what is going to happen from year to year.
